Visual Art
The department of visual arts at GRACE is based on the understanding that God, the original Creator, is a creative God who designed mankind to be imaginative and creative. He gave us the ability to appreciate beauty and produce artwork that is glorifying to Him. God is the greatest creator and artist. He made us in His image; therefore God has imprinted upon our hearts the desire to create. Students at GRACE are introduced to a variety of art materials and techniques at an early age, and the first years in art are about joyful exploration and discovery as students learn about new media, processes, and art elements and principles. Both campuses have well equipped, newly remodeled art rooms with multiple sinks and large kilns. Many art lessons also make connections to other academic subjects, incorporating science, history, English, foreign language, math, and Bible units.
Starting in transitional kindergarten through fifth grade, students have creative art class once a week. Beginning in sixth grade, and continuing from middle school though high school, students have a large variety of available art class options. 100% of our high school students take at least 1 full credit in a fine art before graduation. We offer Art Club on both campuses, for grades 4th to 12th.
Lower Campus (TK-6)
Students in transitional kindergarten through fifth grade have art class once a week. Beginning in sixth grade, students may choose to take art as an elective, and in the upper grades students sharpen their drawing skills and focus on mastering techniques and media introduced in earlier grades.
Upper Campus (7-12)
The Middle and High School art students at GRACE Christian School are devoted to creating art for the glory of God. There are a wide variety of visual arts electives offered for our GRACE students including: Art Foundations, Art Fundamentals, 2D Art, 3D Art, Creative Art, Sculpture, Art Appreciation, Honors Art Appreciation, Photography, Graphic Design, Advanced Digital Design, Adobe Photoshop Certification, Honors Advanced Art, and Honors Art Portfolio. Our talented GRACE art students are active in the local art community. It is our hope that the GRACE art department will shine a light into our community and return the arts to His Glory. GRACE art students participate in community art projects, field trip, competitions, and exhibits.
The GRACE art department loves to show off our students’ artwork, and we prominently display student art at both campuses, including an annual legacy mural painted by our 6th grade elective art students and our senior rock painted by our 12th grade elective art students. We participate in the yearly NC State Fair art exhibit, the ACSI Art Festival for the southeast region, the Scholastic Art competition, the Congressional Art Competition, and the GFWC Raleigh, District VI, and State Competitions. Please contact the art department for more information on upcoming events!
