Katie McMillan joins the board as a former educator, current stay at home mom and GRACE volunteer. Since her family came to GRACE in 2022, she has served in a variety of volunteer roles in her daughters’ classrooms as well as school-wide events and committees.
Katie is looking forward to utilizing her professional experience as a K-12 educator and her personal experience as a GRACE mom as a means to best serve the community with the Board of Trustees.
Let's get to know Katie...
Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: As a daughter of lifelong North Carolina educators, I eagerly followed in my parents’ footsteps with the honor of serving my community through this work. I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from East Carolina University and a master’s degree in school administration from North Carolina State University. This path supported my work as a teacher, coach, curriculum coordinator, and principal at the elementary and middle school level for close to 20 years. I am the proud wife of Judson and proud stay at home mom of Grayson and Anna. We live in Cary where we enjoy exploring the outdoors, dance classes, golf, soccer, and reading books.
Q: How long has your family been a part of the GRACE community?
A: For years I listened to trusted friends and family share all they loved about GRACE. Before Grayson’s kindergarten year, Judson and I toured to see it for ourselves and we have been at GRACE since! Grayson is now in second grade and Anna is in the transitional kindergarten class.
Q: What unique perspective or experience do you think you bring to the board?
A: I have served in multiple education roles at the elementary, middle and high school levels. I am looking forward to utilizing my professional experience and training to collaborate with my fellow board members as we serve the GRACE community of students, staff, parents, and community at large. Combining my education background with my personal role as a GRACE mom on the board is an exciting new step for me.
Q: Are you a part of any specific committee?
A: I serve on the One GRACE Campaign Steering Committee.
Q: What are some of the ways your family has been involved at GRACE over the years?
A: Prior to joining the Board of Trustees, I have enjoyed serving GCS through multiple avenues, including classroom-specific volunteering like lunch help and centers, helping with tours for prospective families, serving as a room parent, serving on the Strategic Planning Curriculum Committee and the One GRACE Campaign Steering Committee.
Q: What, in your perspective, makes GRACE Christian School stand apart from other area Christian schools?
A: The mission of every student feeling and seeing how they are Known, Valued, and Loved is genuine and tangible at GRACE. Seeing it in my own children and their classmates as I have attended events and volunteered is prayers answered. Additionally, the academic quality of the instruction and curriculum at GRACE is exceptional. The balance GRACE provides of a loving, God-centered, academically rigorous TK-12 education is invaluable for our students and our future.
