See, while the Christmas season is filled with great traditions and activities, the true meaning of Christmas that we hold near and dear is often lost amongst the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. As we all know, it can be extremely easy to get caught up in things – to the point where we forget about what is truly important.
The Reason for the Season
The biggest priority for us at GRACE Christian School when it comes to the holiday season is how it impacts our faith in God. As many people say, there is a reason for this season, and it isn’t to receive gifts. Instead, it’s to celebrate our Savior, Jesus Christ, who was born to the world.
The true reason that we should celebrate this season is because of what it stands for. Christians today commonly use Christmas as a holiday on which to celebrate the birth of the Savior. According to the Bible, a baby boy was born thousands of years ago through a woman, Mary, who was a virgin. He was born into humble circumstances as Mary traveled to a city far from her home and gave birth to Jesus in a manger, but He was worshipped from birth by those who recognized His purpose. Then, when Jesus grew older, He proved Himself to be the Son of God, died for the sins of the world, and rose again to pave the way for new life to enter humanity through His blood.
As Christians, we take Christmas as an opportunity to celebrate God sending His only Son to earth as a baby through mankind and celebrate what Jesus did for us. It truly is amazing how God decided to partner with humanity even in His plan for salvation. Understanding the importance of this to our lives, we strive to make sure we prioritize our faith important during the holiday season.
If you, too, desire to prioritize your faith during this holiday season, take some time with your loved ones to read through the Christmas story in the Bible. Spend time praying together and thanking God for what He did by sending His Son Jesus to earth. Keep Jesus in your thoughts and make it about Him, not about gifts or anything else. Truly, it is all about Him.
The Importance of Family
Secondly, our other priority during the Christmas season is family. Although most Christmas movies try to teach us the importance of spending time with family during the holidays, we still tend to undervalue this aspect of Christmas. Alongside keeping faith important, spending time with our families is extremely important to us at GRACE Christian.
We don’t need to convince you that life is busy. Yet in that business, we tend to forget what is most important. One of the things that more often than not is forgotten when things get busy is time spent with family. However, Christmas is a perfect time to bring your family back together and to spend some good, quality time with them.
You can do this by planning times for your family to be together, playing games, watching Christmas movies, or doing anything else that creates quality time for your family to love one another and be together.
Our Christmas Initiative
You may be wondering: “How do you practically value these things at your school?” Well, one of the ways that we go about celebrating the Christmas holidays in the classroom is by doing Christmas programs with the different age groups at our school.
We have separate Christmas concerts for various groups at our school which are Christ-centered and focused on teaching our students the importance of faith and family during the holiday season. These concerts are also the perfect times to gather our students’ families together to enjoy the hard work that they have put into it and to celebrate the true Christmas story. If you’d like more details about our Christmas concerts, please check our school calendar.
So, from GRACE Christian School, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and we pray that you too would put your faith and family first this holiday season.
